Hap and Leonard: First teaser for SundanceTV dark comedy

Posted on Dec 20th, 2015 in Video | Comments Off on Hap and Leonard: First teaser for SundanceTV dark comedy

Ever wonder what True Detective might look like if it took itself less seriously? Or maybe if Dukes of Hazzard had added a bit of intrigue to their plotlines? Well, the new SundanceTV series Hap and Leonard just might be your solution.

The show will follow the exploits of the two eponymous best friends: the white working-class Hap Collins (James Purefoy) with a love for the women of the South, and the black gay veteran Leonard Pine (Michael Kenneth Williams), who carries some serious anger issues.

Set in Texas during the ’80s, Hap and Leonard embark on a scheme to make a fortune after agreeing to a deal with Hap’s ex-wife Trudy (Christina Hendricks). Of course, the plan leads to chaos, and a mystery involving both of these unlikely friends.

The six-episode series is adapted from a series of Joe Lansdale books — eight novels that were released between 1990 and 2011, a ninth due out in February, and two novellas released between 2011 and 2013. Lansdale’s stories were praised for how they combined dark and thrilling mysteries with sharp humor.

Hap and Leonard, created by director/writer Jim Mickle and writer Nick Damici, is set to debut in March on SundanceTV.

#YouAintNoMuslimBruv: Hollywood’s James Purefoy backs London terror response

Posted on Dec 8th, 2015 in News | Comments Off on #YouAintNoMuslimBruv: Hollywood’s James Purefoy backs London terror response

A HOLLYWOOD actor originally from Middle Chinnock has shown his support to the reaction to a stabbing at a London tube station on Saturday (December 5).

One man was seriously injured while another suffered minor injuries during the knife attack at Leytonstone station. The video of the aftermath of the attack shows a man – the alleged perpetrator – being pinned to the floor having been tasered by police.

An unidentified bystander is then heard shouting: “You ain’t no Muslim bruv.” The phrase has been quickly picked up by social media users, posting the hashtag as a riposte to attempts to spread violence and terror in the capital.

The Following star James Purefoy – a former Yeovil District Hospital employee who was raised in Martock – joined the thousands that helped the tag top UK’s trending chart on Twitter on Sunday by sharing the message.

T.I., James Purefoy, Mekhi Phifer, More Cast in A&E Networks ‘Roots’ Revival

Posted on Dec 4th, 2015 in News | Comments Off on T.I., James Purefoy, Mekhi Phifer, More Cast in A&E Networks ‘Roots’ Revival

A+E Networks’ “Roots” remake is filling out its cast with the addition of seven more players, including rapper Tip Harris, better known as T.I., Variety has learned.

“The Following” alum James Purefoy and longtime “E.R.” star Mekhi Phifer have also been cast, along with Matthew Goode (“The Imitation Game,” “The Good Wife”), Lane Garrison (“Prison Break”), Emayatzy Corinealdi (“Hand of God”) and G. Hannelius (“Dog With a Blog”).

T.I. will appear in the final part of the four installments of the revival miniseries, playing Cyrus, a headstrong slave who fights for his freedom for the Union Army against Confederate Forces. His character will be featured prominently in the finale episode. Phifer will play Jerusalem, a mute slave who works on the Murray plantation, but who is not quite what he appears to be; Purefoy has been cast as John Waller, the wealthy owner of a Virginia planation who buys Kunta Kinte as a slave upon his arrival in America; Goode will play Purefoy’s character’s charming and well-educated brother, Dr. William Waller; while Hennelius will play his daughter, Missy; Garrison will play Frederick Murray, a volatile, unpredictable Confederate officer and slave owner; and Corinealdi will play Belle, the wife of Kunta Kinte (played by the previously announced newcomer Malachi Kirby). Interview: James Purefoy Talks “Momentum”

Posted on Nov 27th, 2015 in Interview | Comments Off on Interview: James Purefoy Talks “Momentum”

James-Purefoy

Ahead of the release of new action thriller Momentum this week, we sat down with the film’s star James Purefoy to quiz him on what makes certain villains likable, working with Olga Kurylenko, and his upcoming projects.

Even though he’s a bad guy, Mr. Washington is quite a likeable villain – at what point does being a villain become likeable?
I think it depends on what movie it is and what kind of genre it is. One of my next projects is a remake of Roots which we’re shooting in New Orleans. I play a slave owner and he is a bad guy. I don’t want anybody to like him. I won’t go out of my way to let anybody like him because there’s nothing to like, but that’s also very much what the tone of the piece is. On the other hand, there are some bad guys where you wanna fuck around with the audience’s expectations and play with their sympathies. With Mr. Washington, although he’s a bad guy, I’d like people to like him and then feel slightly horrified by what kind of bad guy he is. Read the rest of this entry »

English actor James Purefoy has an international fanbase of women, gets paid to have on-creen sword fights and knows how to build a killer treehouse, so we reckon that makes him a man worth listening to. The star of Momentum (as well as TV’s Rome and The Following) gives us his advice on how to avoid man boobs and explains where self-confidence comes from.

Tell us about your role in your new film Momentum…
I’m an assassin contracted by Morgan Freeman to retrieve a highly valuable hard drive that was accidentally stolen during a high tech bank robbery. It’s pretty cool. Read the rest of this entry »
